South West Schools Touch Championships

Experience the annual South West Schools Touch Championships – whether your school is new to touch rugby or returning to the tournament, this event is perfect for students of all abilities.

Our inclusive competition features categories for girls, boys, and mixed teams across two age groups (Y7/8 and Y9/10) and provides a fun, supportive environment for everyone to develop and thrive. So get ready for an exciting day of matches, showcasing the values of teamwork and honesty that the sport of touch rugby represents.

At our festival style events, each team will play between 4-6 games. You can have up to 14 players per team as touch rugby has unlimited rolling substitutions. To keep busy between matches, head to the Try Sports flag to join one of our drop-in coaching sessions. 

We will use the England Touch Association Schools Touch Festival rules. Here's a quick summary: 

• the game is 6-a-side (3 girls/3 boys in mixed). 
• attacking team has 6 touches to score a try.
• defensive team must move back at least 5 metres after a touch to get onside.
• a touch can be 1 or 2 handed on any part of ball carrier.
• when touched, the ball carrier plays a roll ball.
